As many of you know my husband Scott is very dedicated to his triathlon training. The past year he has been very committed for training for his first Ironman, even if it meant riding indoors on the trainer for 5 hours at a time.
Ironman Course:
2.4 mile swim (in 54 degree water)
112 mile bike ride (of insane hills of St. George)
1 marathon= 26.2 miles (of more insane hills of St. George)
One of the pro athletes said that it was the toughest Ironman run in the WORLD, and many other pro's agreed it is the top 3 toughest Ironman bike ride in the WORLD. Needless to say, when Scott picked his first Ironman he picked the toughest one possible.
Ironman's are the toughest (single day) endurance event out there. I am beyond impressed of the 'drive' that all these people have, pushing themselves harder than they ever thought possible to reach their goal.
I am SO proud of Scott for all the hard training he has put in...and especially for finishing the race despite the fact it was such a tough race. Many pro's and elite athletes dropped out the run because it was so tough. You would have to see the course in person to see how brutal it is. Us spectators were blown away, and we weren't the ones DOING it!
Being at the finish line was an incredible experience to see everyone come and know they are finished and accomplished their goal. I highly recommend anyone who has the opportunity to go watch the finish of an Ironman, if not more. Everyone in the crowd is so excited and touched to the point of tears, its quite amazing.
And for those of you who keep asking me 'when' I'm going to do my first Ironman--at this point in my life I don't have a desire to kill my body like that...or put in the time to train. Maybe soon I'll do a 1/2 Ironman, that I can see do-able.

I did an ironman once.
ReplyDeleteKaryn what exactly do you mean when you say you 'did' an Ironman once? ;)
